Mei: Welcome to the Gump Media Podcast. I'm Mei, and I edit our culture desk.
Priya: And I'm Priya, from design and technology. Today we're talking about zines, and a line from one of our stories: print makes you finish things.
Mei: When you make a zine, you decide the page count before you start. Twelve pages, or sixteen. That number shapes every decision after it.
Priya: Online there's no page count. You can always add one more paragraph, one more image. It sounds like freedom, but it often means nothing is ever done.
Mei: The makers we met said the photocopier is the deadline. Once the file goes to print, the arguments stop.
Priya: And the fairs matter too. You hand someone a thing, they give you a coin, and you have a conversation. A feed can't give you that.
Mei: So what can a digital newsroom borrow? I think a fixed shape for each story, and a real moment when it ships.
Priya: Preview it in the real design, approve it, publish it, and move on. The constraint is the kindness.
